Situated on the border between Rodhopa and Pirin Mountain, in the picturesque Chepino valley, roundabout venerable oaks and pine-trees, Velingrad is the most popular place for rest and medication in Bulgaria. It is also famous with its perfect climatic conditions – an open winter and cool summer.
Velingrad is about 49 km away from Pazardjik, 85 km away from Plovdiv and about 133 km away from the capital - Sofia.
Thanks to the unique natural resources, Velingrad is a place for development of tourist business. Total capacity of the 80 hot springs is about 170 liters per second. They are hiperthermal with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 88°C, slightly mineralized, silicic, flourine, sulphate-carbonate-sodium. The resort is located at an altitude of 750-850 m. The climate is temperate continental, mild and pleasant fresh. The average annual temperature is 10°C, average July is 19°C.
As well as staying in a region which has a warm summer and mild climate it is also beneficial for your health. If you want to find out if this is true then visit nearby Yundales and meet the locals, many of whom are over 100 years of age. If you ask them the secret of longeivity they will tell you that it is down to pure highland air, stress-free living and plenty of Bulgarian yoghurt.
Because of the healing property of the water, there have been built a lot of balneological centers. Here you can find a lot of luxury hotels, SPA centers and private guest houses, where you can spend your vacation. You
can also visit the Kleptuza lake, the biggest karst lake in Bulgaria (570 litres/minute). There you can rent a boat or a water bike and when you are tired, you can spend the rest of the day relaxing in the beautiful park surrounded by the vicinity.
In winter, there is skiing nearby in Jundola which has a 350m and a 600m runs and which also offers exceptional weather conditions –there is no wind.
